Jelena Michailowna Okolyschewa ( Russian Елена Михайловна Околышева ; international spelling: Elena Okolycheva ; * December 12, 1962 ) is a Russian opera singer ( mezzo-soprano ).

Life

Okolyschewa completed her vocal training at the Moscow State Conservatory in 1990 and then completed postgraduate studies with Elena Obraztsova . In 1991 she made her debut at the Landestheater Salzburg as Emilia in Verdi's Otello . In the same year she was a prizewinner of the Min-On competition in Tokyo and the Bellini competition . Since 1992 she has been engaged as a soloist at the Bolshoi Theater .

With the ensemble of the Bolshoi Theater Okolyschewa a. a. in Austria, China and South Korea. In 1997 she sang at the Paris Opéra-Comique , the Olga in Eugene Onegin . This was followed by concerts in Amsterdam, Düsseldorf, Antwerp and Brussels. In 1999 she performed in the USA. She traveled through Spain with an oratorio and chamber music program. In 2001 she sang Marina Mnick in the opera Boris Godunow in Seoul .

In 2004 she performed Tchaikovsky's cantata Moskwa at the West Palm Beach Concert Hall and sang Flora in La traviata in Athens, Atlanta, Stony Brook and Winston-Salem. In 2005 she appeared as Polina in Queen of Spades at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. In Tokyo and Nagano she sang in Tchaikovsky opera Jolanta the Marta . In 2007 she was a participant in the David Oistrach Festival in Parnu.
