Légion 88 was a French right-wing rock band from Paris that originally came from Essonne . It existed from 1984 to around 1993. It was one of the best-known right-wing extremist skinhead groups of its time and still shapes the right-wing rock scene in France today.

Band history

The band name Légion 88 refers both to the well-known abbreviation “88” = eighth letter of the alphabet = “HH” for “ Heil Hitler ” and to the speed with which the Foreign Legion marches.

The band was formed in August 1984 and released an album and several singles on the Rebelles Européens label . Jean-Christophe M. alias Géno, the first singer of the group was arrested in 1986 because he was involved in a raid on a party venue of the Parti communiste français in Livry-Gargan . A short time later he drowned in the Loire . He was replaced by Alain Pérez.

A tribute album was released for the group on the independent label Street Fighting Records . Alain Pérez left Légion 88 and then played in the bands Short Cut and Tribal Zone.

ideology

Légion 88 were neo - Nazi oriented. In songs they demanded freedom for Rudolf Hess or used German refrains such as “Ein Volk - Ein Reich - Ein Führer”. Fred Wartner (bass) and Dominique Laffont (guitar) belonged to the Parti nationaliste français et européen (PNFE) for some time .
