Rebelles Européens was a French right-wing rock label. Alongside Rock-O-Rama , it was one of the top-selling and most important companies in the right-wing extremist music scene during the 1980s / early 1990s.
Label history
The label was founded in 1987 by Gael Bodilis in Brest . Bodillis belonged to the right-wing extremist skinhead scene and was a former secretary of the Front National Jeunesse . He was also the manager of the right-wing rock band Brutal Combat .
He explained the founding out of a political interest, according to his own statements he was not interested in profit. In 1988 he tried to organize a skinhead concert in Brest, which was ultimately banned by the police. This was followed by massive riots in Brest. Eight immigrants were injured and 32 right-wing extremist skinheads were arrested.
The album This Time the World by No Remorse , one of the hardest right-wing releases at the time, which glorified National Socialism , denied the Holocaust and incited against blacks and the left. After this success, Rebelles Européens quickly grew into an international company that only had little success in Germany due to the dominance of Rock-O-Rama . The label released around 70 albums from the international scene, including Dirlewanger, Noiewerte and Ultima Thule . Although the label only acted in the field of right-wing rock, it also released an album by the Italian anti-fascist Oi! Band Klasse Kriminale . In addition to the label activity, a glossy catalog appeared in which, in addition to sound carriers, associated merchandising items were also offered. Books and records with marching music were also sold.
A house search took place in the summer of 1991 after Paul Burnley had recorded an album with his project The Fourth Reich. Bodlis was detained for three weeks but was released. The label was discontinued in 1994. Rumors of a revival made the rounds in 1996 and 1997.
