Jelena Semyonovna Tschischowa
Jelena Semjonovna Tschischowa ( Russian Елена Семёновна Чижова , scientific transliteration: Elena Semёnovna Čižova ; born May 4, 1957 in Leningrad ) is a Russian writer.
Life
After studying economics, Tschischowa initially worked at university and in the private sector before she began to write in the mid-1990s, after having experienced a ship fire. In 2009 she received the Russian Booker Prize for the book The Silent Power of Women . By 2017 she had published nine books.
In 2018, she complained about xenophobia in Russia, which is being fueled by the state and its propaganda .
Tschischowa is the chair of the Saint Petersburg section of the Russian PEN Club .
