Jelle van Tongeren

Jelle van Tongeren (born April 24, 1980 in Haarlem ) is a Dutch musician of gypsy jazz (violin, composition).

Jelle van Tongeren grew up in a musical family; his mother is a concert pianist and cellist, his father is a violin maker and his sister is also a violinist. At the age of seven he began to learn to play the violin; at the age of 17 he turned to gypsy jazz, influenced by the music of Stéphane Grappelli . He attended the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and worked with Rob Madna and Daniel Otten during this time . In the tradition of swing by Reinhardt / Grappelli, he also processes influences from the modern jazz of Jean-Luc Ponty as well as those of Fats Navarro , Clifford Brown , Sonny Rollins and Charlie Parker . In mid-2005 he released his debut album Earbeat on Chamsa Records , on which Reinier Voet and Robin Nolan participated. In the following years he played five more albums; he was also involved in the recording of Fapy Lafertin . He works with his own band projects, such as the formations Nikitov , Mens en van Tongeren , Hot Club de Frank (with Wim Lammen, among others ) and Unza Unza ; in the Jelle van den Tongeren Group he played with Frank Meester .
