Jennifer Elizabeth Randerson, Baroness Randerson (born May 26, 1948 ) is a Welsh Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords . She currently serves as Junior Minister in the Wales Office and is responsible for Wales Education.

Randerson was a councilor on Cardiff City Council and a member of the National Assembly for Wales from 1999 to 2011 . She was a member of the Labor Liberal Democrats government of Wales from 2000 to 2003. In 2011, Randerson was named a Life Peer .

biography

Randerson attended Bedford College, University of London , where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology and Biochemistry in 1983 . From 1983 to 2000 Randerson was a lecturer at Cardiff Tertiary College. She led the opposition on Cardiff City Council for four years. The "Creative Future" plan, a development strategy for the Welsh language, was developed by Randerson.

National Assembly for Wales

Randerson was Minister for Culture, Sports and the Welsh Language in the Liberal Democrat / Labor coalition government from 2000 to 2003. From July 6, 2001 to June 13, 2002, she held the post of Deputy First Minister for Wales . In the 2nd Welsh National Assembly, Randerson served as the Liberal Democrats spokesperson for health and social affairs, equality and finance. She ran for leadership of the Welsh Liberal Democrats in 2008, but lost to Kristiy Williams, who was elected with 60% of the vote .

In the third Welsh National Assembly, Randerson was the Liberal Democrats' spokeswoman for education, transportation and business. She did not run for the 2011 elections to the Welsh National Assembly. Nigel Howells, who ran for the Liberal Democrats instead, lost to Jenny Rathbone .

House of Lords

In January 2011 Randerness as was Baroness Randerson , of Roath Park, in the City of Cardiff for Life Peer appointed and in the House of Lords on 31 January 2011 introduced . She is a member of the Liberal Democrats group. Randerson was named Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Wales Office on September 4, 2012. Randerson is the first female member of the Welsh Liberal Democrats to hold ministerial office in the UK Parliament and the first member of the Welsh Liberal Democrats to hold a ministerial post since Gwilym Lloyd -George 1945. She is also the first Welsh female politician to hold a government post in the British Parliament outside of the Labor Party.
