Jens Aarestrup

Jens Peder Smidt Aarestrup (born January 18, 1827 in Sogndal ; † July 12, 1893 ibid) was a Norwegian piano maker and politician.

Life

Jens Peder Smidt Aarestrup's parents were Thomas Graa Aarestrup and Marthea Parelius. He was trained outside of Norway. In 1857 he opened his manufacturing facility at Småstrandgaden 9 in Bergen and sold it in 1886 to Henrik Severin Riisnjess (1858–1909). Here he worked with five employees. From 1867 to 1885 he was a member of the city council in Bergen. From 1877 to 1879 he was a permanent member of parliament for Bergen im Storting . Before that he was Deputy Member of Parliament from 1871 to 1876. His great niece Sofie Lindstrøm (1849–1941) ran a private girls' school in Bergen, Sofie Lindstrøms pikeskole . The school was one of the most prestigious schools in Bergen.
