Jens Herzer

Jens Herzer (born December 7, 1963 in Arnstadt , Thuringia) is pastor of the Thuringian regional church and professor of the New Testament .

Live and act

From 1984 to 1989, Herzer studied Protestant theology in Berlin. He then completed the vicariate in Berlin and passed the second theological exam. In 1993 he completed his doctorate on “The Paralipomena Jeremias . Studies on a Haggadah of Early Judaism ”at the Humboldt University in Berlin , where he worked as an assistant in the following years. Jens Herzer also completed his habilitation at the Humboldt University in 1997 with a thesis entitled “ Petrus oder Paulus ? Studies on the relationship between the first epistle of Peter and the Pauline tradition ”. Both this work and his dissertation were supervised by Christian Wolff .

In the following years Herzer taught in Berlin as a private lecturer. In 1999 he took over a professorship at the Theological Faculty of the University of Leipzig , where he held the office of Dean of Studies from 2003 to 2005, that of Vice Dean from 2006 to 2008 and that of Dean from 2008 to 2009.

Jens Herzer's work focuses on research into early Judaism , the Pauline and Catholic letter literature, the Revelation of John and the Gospel of Mark . He is u. a. Co-editor of the Theological Hand Commentary series on the New Testament . A current project is a commentary on the pastoral letters in this series.
