Jens Newig

Jens Newig (* 1970 ) is a German environmental scientist . He is Professor of Sustainability and Governance at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg .

Life

Newig studied chemistry and geography at the University of Tübingen from 1991 to 1993 and geoecology at the University of Bayreuth from 1993 to 1998 . He received his doctorate in 2002 on the subject of symbolic environmental legislation. Legal sociological studies using the example of the Ozone Act, the Recycling and Waste Management Act and the Large Combustion Plant Ordinance at the Faculty of Law at the TU Dresden . From 2001 to 2010 he was a research assistant at the Institute for Environmental Systems Research at the University of Osnabrück . From 2008 to 2009 he was an administrative professor at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg and completed his habilitation in 2009 on the subject of environmental governance in the light of participation and effectiveness: case studies and models in political science and applied systems science at the University of Osnabrück. Newig has been Professor of Sustainability and Governance at Leuphana University Lüneburg since 2010.

Newig is married and has a daughter.

research

Newig's research deals with participatory governance and societal transformation processes. The focus is on public participation processes and their effectiveness in environmental decision-making processes.

In 2016 Newig received the research award from the University of Lüneburg for “his outstanding scientific successes and excellent publication achievements”.
