Jermell De'Avante Charlo (born May 19, 1990 in Richmond , Texas ) is an American professional boxer and current WBC world light middleweight champion . He is the twin brother of professional boxer Jermall Charlo .

Career

After a short amateur career, Charlo switched to the pros in 2007 and won his debut against Corey Sommerville (1-0). In his further development phase he beat opponents with positive records like Vito Gasparyan (11-1), Abdon Lozano (6-0), Luis Grajeda (10-0), Francisco Santana (12-2) and Denis Douglin (14-1) . Against Harry Yorgey (25-1) he won the American Championship of the WBC in January 2013 and in June 2013 against Demetrius Hopkins (33-2) the US Championship of the USBA.

In 2014 he defeated Gabriel Rosado (21-7), Charlie Ota (24-1) and Mario Lozano (29-5). In March 2015, he managed a unanimous victory over Vanes Martirosyan (35-1). In October 2015 he beat Joachim Alcine (35-7) prematurely.

With a knockout win against John Jackson (20-2) on May 21, 2016 in Las Vegas , he became WBC world light middleweight champion. In April 2017 he defended the title early against Charles Hatley (26-1) and in October 2017 also early against Erickson Lubin (18-0).
