history

The first settlers settled at an arch of the Brazon River in 1822 and built a fortification which they named after the English city of Richmond . Due to various armed conflicts in the area, such as the Runaway Scrape in 1836 and the Yaybird-Woodpecker War in 1888 and 1889, the number of residents temporarily decreased.

At first the cultivation of cotton was the main livelihood of the inhabitants. Farms with cattle followed . Petroleum and sulfur were also extracted in the 1930s . Through the election to the administrative seat of Fort Bend County, the place received further popularity.

Today, Richmond is used as a quiet residential area for commuters to the nearby metropolis of Houston.
