Jerome D. Tossy

Jerome D. Tossy (born February 28, 1932 in Stambaugh , Michigan ; † February 18, 2009 in Los Altos , California ) was an American orthopedic surgeon who became known for his widely-used categorization of ankle joint dislocations , published in 1963 .

Tossy's father was a dentist, his mother a dancer and singer. After East Lansing High School , he studied at Michigan State University and Wayne State University , most recently as an intern (comparable to the practical year ) in Galveston (Texas) . Tossy completed his specialist training in hospitals in Evanston and Los Angeles . He then served briefly in the US Navy and finally worked from 1965 to 1992 in a private orthopedic clinic in Los Altos (California) , where he also lived and belonged to numerous civic associations.
