Jeronimo is a German hard rock band from the early 1970s .

history

The group was founded in 1969 by Rainer Marz, Gunnar Schäfer and Ringo Funk. With their first two singles Jeronimo achieved success across Europe: the cover versions Heya (1969, JJ Light ) and Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye (1970, Steam ). In 1970, the LP Spirit Orgaszmus of Jeronimo and Creedence Clearwater Revival , pressed in pink vinyl , was released, each containing a page with titles by Jeronimo and a page with Creedence Clearwater Revival . Due to the idiosyncratic cover design (a penis ejaculates the musicians), the album became a prototype for later releases in the progressive genre.

In 1970 Jeronimo played at the first Burg-Herzberg Festival and at the legendary "Progressive Pop Festival Cologne". An appearance in Lausanne as part of a UNICEF project was broadcast worldwide on television in 1971. The band, whose members have since changed, broke up in 1972 after the release of three of their own albums.

After the group split up, drummer Ringo Funk moved to Atlantis . Rainer Marz has become an extremely popular studio musician in the environment of the successful Frankfurt producer Peter Hauke ​​(Nektar, Peter Maffay, Supermax). Marz also became a permanent member of the live band Supermax .

In 1982 the founding members recorded their greatest success Heya again in new versions that were released as a single (CBS).

In 2001 the three musicians of the band got together again and since then there have been concerts together again. a. on May 16, 2004 in the Waldstadion Frankfurt.
