Jerusalem Bible Lexicon

The Jerusalem Bible Lexicon is a reference work on the Bible published by the German theologian Kurt Hennig . It contains contributions from the study group Word and Knowledge , which is close to Christian fundamentalism .

The 937-page in the first edition Bible dictionary was first published in 1989 in Hänssler-Verlag under the ISBN 3-7751-1271-5 . In 1998, the 4th edition, expanded to 959 pages, with the supplemented title Jerusalem Bibellexikon followed. 3500 biblical terms under ISBN 3-7751-2367-9 .

The Jerusalem Bibellexikon is the German edition of the 1986 Illustrated Dictionary and Concordance of the Bible , published by The Jerusalem Publishing House, Ltd.

Exegetes , historians , archaeologists , religious scholars and linguists from several countries have contributed to the Jerusalem Biblical Lexicon , including several Jewish theologians and archaeologists from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem .

Structure and special features

After a foreword, the list of employees and the list of abbreviations, the keywords from Aaron to Cypress are dealt with , which include all biblical names of persons and places.

This is followed as a special feature of the creation theory appendix of the study group Word and Knowledge , in which on approx. 25 pages after an introduction to the subject of evolution theory and creationism, alphabetically ordered keywords from Adam and Eve to ark , species , biblical prehistory, DNA molecule , Cain , cosmos , creation and computer science , the flood , the fall of man , theistic evolution , death , tohuwabohu , miracles and natural law are viewed from the perspective of the biblical doctrine of creation .

The page layout of the lexicon is three columns. The broad middle column contains all key words with explanations in alphabetical order. A narrow column in the margin contains, as a concordance, all biblical passages of the covered keywords in the order of the biblical canon . The third column is reserved for photos and maps. If there is a lot of image material on a certain topic, photos and representations are also inserted in the middle column that is actually reserved for the text.
