Jerviston House

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jerviston House was a mansion on the northwestern outskirts of Motherwell in the Scottish administration unit North Lanarkshire .

history

The small mansion was built in the 15th century and belonged to the family of Robert Baillie . Its appearance is said to have matched that of Kingencleugh Castle . At the end of the 18th century, the architects James and Robert Adam were commissioned to design a new country house next to the old manor house.

The Colville family later bought the property. Their steel works turned the small village of Motherwell into an industrial town at the end of the 19th century. After the death of David Colville Sr. , the property was bequeathed to steel mill employees and turned into a park.

In the 1960s, the "old" country house (from the 18th century) was demolished and replaced by a new Country Club House with modern furnishings. At the same time, the old mansion from the 15th century, which had since fallen into disrepair, was demolished. The new clubhouse is also used to host weddings and similar events.
