Jesse Guthrie (born October 23, 1958 in Huntsville , Alabama ) is a sport climbing pioneer in the USA and an author. He has published four novels and one autobiography.

Life

He began rock climbing in Seneca Rocks, West Virginia, at the age of 13. After graduating from high school , in addition to his climbing career, he also rodeo as a professional in the American Rodeo Association.

Between 1985 and 1986 he lived in Germany, where he and his friends Wolfgang Güllich , Kurt Albert and Jerry Moffatt climbed many sport climbing routes with the highest levels of difficulty. The red-point climbing philosophy Kurt Albert and sophisticated training methods Wolfgang Güllichs influenced him greatly. ("This was the real beginning of my climbing career.")

When he went back to the USA in 1986, he made several first ascents there in difficulty level X (UIAA) and X +.

He climbed in Africa, South America and made an expedition to Makalu in the Himalayas with Jeff Lowe and Catherine Destivelle .

Since 2003 he has lived in Prague , Czech Republic with his wife and daughter .
