Jesu is an English post-metal and post-rock band.

Band history

In 2001, Godflesh co- founder Justin K. Broadrick began his new project Jesus in 2001, which was initially conceived as a solo work. In 2002 the band Godflesh was dissolved.

The first release Heart Ache (2004), a 40-minute EP consisting of two songs, was accordingly written and recorded by him on his own. The debut album Jesu , released at the end of 2004, was created in collaboration with previous musical companions Diarmuid Dalton and Ted Parsons. In terms of sound technology, following on from his earlier band, Broadrick emphasizes the slow, spherical, dragging elements of the sound originally characteristic of Godflesh, while the aggressive elements take a back seat. The compositions are usually based on complex, repetitive guitar and bass runs that gradually begin to envelop the listener through the additional use of reverb and distortion effects. Shoegaze's influence grew stronger with each release.

Broadrick's texts deal in an abstract way primarily with conflicts that revolve around topics such as failure, guilt, disappointment, hope, love, etc. Often it is a matter of delimiting the behavior or feelings of an individual from the expectations and requirements of partners, institutions or social norms.
