Yevgeny Ivanovich Feofanov

Yevgeny Ivanovich Feofanow ( Russian Евгений Иванович Феофанов ; born  April 22, 1937 in Moscow ) is a former Soviet boxer . Feofanov was a bronze medalist at the 1960 Olympic Games and a silver medalist at the 1961 European Championships.

Career

Feofanow was Soviet middleweight champion in 1960 (-75 kg). In 1958 he was runner-up behind Gennady Shatkov and in 1959 behind Valery Popentschenko .

Feofanow played one of his first appearances for the Soviet boxing selection in 1956 in an international match against a German selection against Dieter Wemhöner , which he won (2-1). In 1957 he won the boxing tournament at the World Festival of Youth and Students in Moscow .

At the 1960 Olympic Games Feofanow reached the semi-finals after victories over Yoland Levèque, France (5: 0), Carlos Lucas , Chile (KO 2nd), and Luigi Napoleoni, Italy (KO 2nd), the semi-finals, which he played against Tadeusz Walasek , Poland (4: 1), lost and won the Olympic bronze medal.

In 1961 Feofanow took part in the European Championships and won the silver medal. In the final he had to admit defeat to Walasek (TKO 3rd).
