Stephan Maria Mayerhoffer von Vedropolje (born August 17, 1839 in Gospić ; † March 18, 1918 in Vienna ) was an Austro-Hungarian officer ( field marshal lieutenant ) and teacher at the artillery cadet school with the Hungarian nobility rating .

Battle of Königgrätz

The son of the Imperial and Royal Zimmer foreman and later mayor of Gospić Johannes Mayerhoffer (1804–1874), was educated in the Austrian military training centers since 1853 , and after graduating from the Imperial and Royal Technical Military Academy in Vienna served as a sub-lieutenant from September 1, 1861. Artillery Regiment Stein and was used after its retirement for three months to level the Brion Islands at the Pola naval base .

1864 entered the higher artillery course. While he was translated as Lieutenant to Field Artillery Regiment No. 10 in 1865 , Mayerhoffer joined this troop body at his request in 1866 and fought with Wysokow and Königgrätz with distinction, so that he received the highest commendation for his outstanding achievements . Promoted to first lieutenant in 1870, then transferred to the fortress artillery battalion No. 10 in 1873, he came from 1874 to 1881 as a teacher at the artillery cadet school, in which service he was awarded the Imperial Military Cross of Merit of Emperor Franz Joseph I and in 1878 was made captain in the field. Artillery Regiments No. 8 advanced. Mayerhoffer then attended the staff officer course, which he completed in 1882. In the same year he was transferred to Field Artillery Regiment No. 1, in 1885 to Heavy Battery Division No. 27 and in 1886 as Battery Division Commander to Corps Artillery Regiment No. 10, and in 1888 he advanced to Major .

In 1890 he received command of the heavy battery division No. 20, was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1891 and, as commander of the 2nd division artillery regiment, to colonel in 1894, in which rank he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown 3rd class and the Hungarian in 1898 Nobility were conferred.

In 1899 it was translated into the active status of the Royal Hungarian Landwehr , where he, U. c. in the Croatian-Slavonian Infantry Regiment No. 25, which was assigned to the Royal Hungarian Agramerican -Slavonian 7th Landwehr District Command. With the appointment of May 1, 1900 (rank of May 21 of the year) to commander of the Royal Hungarian Landwehr Brigade Eszek (Osijek) No. 84 and promoted to major general, Mayerhoffer retired on September 1, 1901 . Finally, on June 7, 1908, he was honored with the title of Field Marshal Lieutenant.

In the course of his career, in addition to the honors listed above, Stephan Maria was also awarded the Silver Military Merit Medal on the Ribbon of the Military Merit Cross (" Signum laudis "), the Military Merit Medal on the Red Ribbon , the War Medal , the Golden Jubilee Commemorative Medal for the Armed Power and the Military Service Badge excellent for officers.

His son Eberhard Mayerhoffer von Vedropolje from his 1868 marriage with Maria Köhler (born July 11, 1849 in Eger (Cheb) ; † December 22, 1930 in Vienna ) also took up the military career.
