Yevgeny Lazarevich Roshal

Yevgeny Lazarevich Roschal ( Russian Евгений Лазаревич Рошал ; internationally also known under the English form Eugene Roshal , born March 10, 1972 in Chelyabinsk ) is a Russian programmer .

Life

Roshal graduated from the former Technical University of Chelyabinsk (now South Ural State University ), Faculty of Equipment. He was best known for the development of the RAR data compression format and the associated packing programs for DOS and Windows. In addition, Roschal developed the FAR Manager from 1996 to 2000 , the development of which has been continued as an open source project since 2007 .

Roschal's brother Alexander has been the rights holder for RAR and the WinRAR packaging program, which he also developed , since Roschal claims that he has no time to deal with development and copyright issues at the same time. Distribution is handled exclusively by win.rar GmbH based in Germany.
