Yevgeny Wassiljewitsch Dulejew

Evgeni Wassiljewitsch Dulejew ( Russian Евгений Васильевич Дулеев ; born April 5, 1956 in Moscow ) is a former Soviet rower who won an Olympic silver medal in 1976.

Athletic career

The 1.93 m tall Yevgeny Dulejew from Spartak Moscow took third place in the double sculls at the 1974 Junior World Championships . The following year he moved up to the Soviet quadruple . At the 1975 World Championships in Nottingham , Vytautas Butkus , Juri Jakimow , Aivars Lazdenieks and Evgeni Dulejew rowed the bronze medal behind the boats from the GDR and Czechoslovakia. At the 1976 Olympic Games , the Soviet double sculls appeared in the same line-up as in the previous year. In the run-up, the boat won with a three second lead over the double foursome from the GDR and qualified directly for the final. In the final, the crew from the GDR won with one second ahead of the Soviet double scull, while the Czechoslovaks won the bronze medal just under two seconds behind. In 1977 the Soviet double foursome started with the same line-up at the World Championships in Amsterdam , but only finished second in the B final and eighth place in the overall standings. 1979 Dulejew joined the World Championships in Bled together with Igor Semischew in double sculls and finished ninth. 1980 Alexander Fomchenko switched to Dulejew in the double scull. At the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow , the two finished third in the preliminary run and won their reunion. In the final they reached fifth place.
