Jiří Robert Pick
Jiří Robert Pick (born May 4, 1925 in Prague , † March 17, 1983 in Zbraslav ) was a Czech writer.
Life
Pick was the son of a chemical engineer. His sister was the American documentary filmmaker Zuzana Justman . Because of his Jewish origins, he had to break off high school in 1939. In 1943 he and his family were taken to the Theresienstadt concentration camp . After his return he received medical treatment for a long time. In 1954 he finally graduated from the School of Politics and Economics. He then worked for the newspaper Literární noviny , later as a freelance writer and theater dramaturge. Pick headed the Paraván Theater from 1962 , founded the Au Theater in 1968 and worked for the satirical magazine Dikobraz. In 1969 his works were banned in Czechoslovakia . From 1961 he was married to Iva Hercíková .
Works
He wrote traditional Czech parodies, criticizing local excesses of socialism with a view to improving the situation. There were also plays, a children's book and song lyrics.
