content

At Kamome High School, seven school mysteries are known - supernatural apparitions that students and teachers tell stories about. One of them is the toilet spirit Hanako-san, who is supposed to fulfill wishes, but charges a high price for it. In desperation because her crush ignores her, Nene Yashiro ( 八 尋 寧 々 ) goes to the toilet in the old school wing and conjures up Hanako. Unlike in the legends, the ghost turns out not to be a girl, but a lustful, cheeky boy. At first he only helps her with mundane everyday tips, before Yashiro helps himself to his magical utensils. With this she draws the curse of a mermaid, to whose retinue she is now supposed to be in the form of a fish. But Hanako defeats the mermaid with his previously hidden powers. But to compensate, Yashiro now has to be at his service. From then on she supports him as one of the seven mysteries of the school, who watches over the other spirits. While Hanako can only transport the other spirits into the afterlife, Yashiro as a human being is able to change the rumors about the spirits and thus also their behavior.

Soon the young exorcist Kō Minamoto ( 源 光 ) joins the two, who is supposed to drive Hanako out. Since he is the ghost of a murderer - he still has the bloody knife with him and uses it as a weapon in battle - Minamoto considers him an evil ghost. However, Hanako was charged as a penance for his act of controlling the spirits of the school. In addition, it is easy for him to defeat Minamoto. But he remains a constant companion of Yashiro and the spirit and also stands by them with some tasks. In contrast to his older brother and already practiced exorcist Teru Minamoto ( 源 輝 ), who is popular at the school and who thinks all spirits are evil and wants to drive them out, Kō realizes that Hanako tries to bring about peace between spirits and people at the school to preserve. Hanako is supported in this by the other school mysteries, which, however, keep getting out of control.

After a few incidents at the school it is revealed that behind these Hanakos twin brother Tsukasa - the same one Hanako, still known as Amane, killed. Tsubasa is sadistic and brutal and instead of harmony at school he just wants everyone to be able to do what they want. He fulfills ghosts' wishes, but turns them into evil, dangerous beings. He is supported by two students: Sakura Nanamine ( 七 峰 桜 ) and Natsuhiko Hyūga ( 日 向 夏 彦 ), both in the school's radio club, about whose program they the rumors about ghosts at school. When Kō tries to guide the spirit of his former, lonely classmate Sōsuke Mitsuba ( 三葉 惣 助 ) peacefully into the afterlife, he befriends the spirit. But Tsukasa interferes, so that Sōsuke first becomes an evil spirit and then with Tsukasa's intervention even takes on the role of Mystery No. 3.
