Jigdo ( suitcase word from Jigsaw and download ) is a download program that downloads all files required for an ISO image in order to create an ISO image from them. Originally developed for Debian , it is now also available for Ubuntu , Fedora , Solaris , and FreeBSD . For Debian, it is expected to become the main way of distributing Debian CD images in the future.

This approach of downloading the files you need one at a time, rather than one large ISO file, reduces the load on the servers. Especially at peak times when z. For example, when a new distribution appears, an increased download rate is achieved.

Another interesting feature is the ability to update an old ISO file. To do this, the old file is mounted and used as the source. Jigdo pulls the files that are still up to date from the old ISO file and just downloads new files and creates a new ISO file with those new and old files.
