Jimara (name variant: Diamaru , Jemarrow ) was a historical empire in what is now the West African state of Gambia .

history

The empire was one of the nine kingdoms of the Mandinka on the south bank of the Gambia River , across from Janjanbureh Island , from the early 18th century to the mid 19th century . It extended in the northwest to the empire Eropina , in the southeast the empire Tomani was neighboring.

From 1732 there are two historical maps with the titles " A map of the River Gambia from its mouth to Eropina " and " A map of the River Gambia from Eropina to Barrakunda ". On this the course of the Gambia from the confluence in the Atlantic Ocean to Deer Island and then from this to Barrakunda is drawn. On the second part of the map, Jimara is called Jemarrow.
