Eropina , also spelled Wuropana , was a historical empire in what is now the West African state of Gambia .

history

The empire was one of the nine Mandinka empires on the southern bank of the Gambia River , across from Deer Island , from the early 18th century to the mid 19th century . It extended thereby in the southwest to the kingdom of Niamina , in the southeast the kingdom of Jimara was neighboring.

From 1732 there are two historical maps with the titles " A map of the River Gambia from its mouth to Eropina " and " A map of the River Gambia from Eropina to Barrakunda ". On this the course of the Gambia from the confluence in the Atlantic Ocean to Deer Island and then from this to Barrakunda is drawn.
