The maibara station ( Japanese 米原駅 Maibara-eki ) is located in Maibara in Shiga Prefecture .

Maibara is served by the Tōkaidō Shinkansen and the Tōkaidō main line of the JR Central railway company , the Tōkaidō main line and the Hokuriku main line of the JR West and the sowiemi main line of the Bahnmi Tetsudō railway company. The Hokuriku main line has its southern end point here and responsibility for the Tōkaidō main line changes from JR Central to JR West.

The traffic of the Tōkaidō Line and the Hokuriku Line is handled on three island platforms with six tracks. An island platform and a side platform are used for the traffic of the Tōkaidō Shinkansen. The Ōmi Tetsudō has its own island platform with two tracks, on which the traffic to Hikone , Yōkaichi and Kibukawa is handled.

In 2006, an average of 4,441 people used the JR West and 6,017 people the JR Central every day at this station. It is a through station with 13 through tracks, which was opened on July 1, 1889. Most of the transport services have been provided by JR West since 1987, but JR Central still looks after the tracks used for the Shinkansen express service.
