Jinci ( Chinese  晉祠  /  晋祠 , Pinyin Jìncí ) is a temple complex in Taiyuan in the Chinese province of Shanxi from the time of the Song Dynasty . Its core is the ancestral temple of Prince Shu Yu.

The temple has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (1-85) since 1961 .

history

Jinci Temple has a long history that can be traced back to the Western Zhou Dynasty (11th century BC to 711 BC) when King Cheng left one of his states to his younger brother Yu. Yu was an intelligent leader and made many contributions to the state, so after his death his descendants built a temple for him to honor his achievement.
