João da Silva Correia (Romanist)

João da Silva Correia (born January 21, 1891 in Espariz , † June 1, 1937 in Lisbon ) was a Portuguese Romanist and Lusitanist .

Life

Correia studied at the University of Lisbon (graduating in 1917) and was a high school teacher, from 1920 professor at the Pedagogical University, then assistant at the university. There he received his doctorate in 1929 with the thesis O eufemismo eo disfemismo na língua e na literatura portuguesa (in: Arquivo da Universidade de Lisboa , 12, 1927), habilitated in 1930 and professor with the thesis A rima ea sua acção linguística, literária e ideológica ( Lisboa 1930). He died at the age of 46.

He should not be confused with the novelist João da Silva Correia (writer) , 1896–1973.
