Joël Froment (born April 27, 1938 in Versailles ) is a French painter .

biography

Joël Froment was born into a family with six children. His father was a math, physics and chemistry teacher. A neighbor, an amateur painter, made friends with him and often received him to show him his pictures.

From 1962 to 1968 he studied at the Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1968 he received his diploma and in the same year won the Prix ​​de Rome . Froment then stayed at the Villa Medici in Rome from 1968 to 1972 , where Balthus was the director at the time.

After a period of lyrical abstraction , Froment changed his style towards minimalist geometric abstraction . He is interested in color in its energetic aspect.

In 1985 he joined the MADI International movement (international movement made up of about sixty artists from 15 different countries), of which he was president from 1996 to 2008.
