Joël Thuringia

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joël Thüring (born 5. December 1983 ) is a Swiss politician of the SVP .

Thuringia was President of the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt from February 8, 2017 to January 31, 2018 . Thuringia was elected with 63 out of 98 valid votes and 33 abstentions. This is a rather bad election result. The major parties in Basel take turns in the office of president. Thuringia is the youngest “tallest Basel” in over a hundred years.

In 2006 Thuringia hit the headlines because, as president of the Junge SVP, he stole money from the party coffers because of tax debts. He then had to leave the party.

In 2015, he had not paid his military substitute tax of 2,400 francs.

Thuringia is a businessman and managing director of Aspero AG, an SME in the field of political consulting, trust and legal advice. Until 2015, Thuringia and his party colleague Sebastian Frehner were partners at Aspero AG. As a result of the military substitute tax scandal, Frehner sold half of the company to Thuringia.
