Joachim Becker (politician, 1942)

Joachim Becker (born February 21, 1942 in Pforzheim ) is a lawyer and SPD politician. From 1985 to 2001 he was Lord Mayor of the City of Pforzheim.

Life

Joachim Becker is the son of a soldier who died in World War II. He graduated from Kepler-Gymnasium in Pforzheim and then studied law , political science and economics at the universities of Heidelberg , Lausanne , Bonn and New York . At the University of Bonn he did his doctorate in law in a field of comparative law.

He did his legal preparatory service at the Higher Regional Court (OLG) Karlsruhe. In 1971 Joachim Becker was a trainee lawyer at the German Chamber of Commerce in Madrid (Spain). From March to September 1972 he was employed by the lawyer Karl Doerner in Pforzheim. On February 1, 1973, he became the personal advisor to his SPD party friend, the then Lord Mayor Willi Weigelt. From 1976 until his successful election as mayor in 1985, Becker was head of the legal office of the city of Pforzheim. From July 22, 1985 to July 21, 2001 he was Lord Mayor of Pforzheim. During this time he was the chairman of the supervisory and administrative boards of important municipal companies. After the end of his term of office, on July 22, 2001, he joined the law firm Doerner (†), Forster, Riegert, Schnaufer, who now operate as lawyers in the industrial house.

Joachim Becker is the author of the book Success in Election Campaigns - A Guide for Candidates and their Helpers in Local, State and Federal Elections (Munich, 1988 ISBN 3-442-10398-3 ) as well as many essays on historical, political and social topics.

His stay in the USA and his fresh, open manner earned him the nickname "Kennedy from the Northern Black Forest" .

Since 2008 Dr. Joachim Becker Chairman of the Reuchlin Society, the Board of Trustees of the Pforzheim University and the ProSynagoge eV association

Joachim Becker is married. The couple has two daughters.
