Joachim Betz (Manager)

Joachim Wolfgang Betz (born February 4, 1948 in Bad Mergentheim ) is a German microbiologist and manager.

Life

Betz studied biology and chemistry at the University of Frankfurt. He passed the two state exams in 1972 and 1974. He then worked as a research assistant at the Frankfurt University Hospital. During this time he prepared his doctorate for Dr. phil. nat. majoring in biochemistry. From 1976 to 1979 he conducted research at the Battelle Institute in the field of cancer prescreening and from 1979 to 1980 he was an Expert Consultant in the field of malignant markers at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda (USA).

He returned to Germany in 1980 and joined Hoechst AG . There he took on various managerial tasks in the field of pharmaceutical research. In 1990 he became a member of the general and speakers committee of Hoechst AG and in 1993 he was elected chairman. From 1997 to 2009 he was a member of the supervisory board of Hoechst Marion Roussel (from 2000 Aventis Pharma Deutschland GmbH), from 1998 to 2009 a member of the supervisory board of Hoechst AG and from 2000 to 2004 a member of the supervisory board of Aventis SA in Strasbourg.

He joined the VAA in 1980 and became a member of its federal executive committee in 1997. From 1999 to 2003 he was first chairman of the VAA and from 2003 to 2008 second chairman. From 2005 to 2008 and from 2009 to 2011 he was President of the German Management Association (ULA).
