Joachim Heitbaum

Joachim Heitbaum (* 1940 ) is a German chemist and university professor.

Heitbaum studied physics at the University of Bonn and received his doctorate in 1972 under Wolf Vielstich on a topic from electrochemistry . In 1978 the habilitation followed ; In 1980 he was appointed adjunct professor . In 1985 he was appointed professor of physical chemistry at the private University of Witten / Herdecke . In 1989 he switched to industry at Chemetall GmbH in Frankfurt. There he was promoted to laboratory director in 1993 and head of chemical laboratories in 1996, which he remained until his retirement in 2005.

Together with Gerhard Wiegleb , he developed a nitrogen oxide sensor.

In 2010 he was awarded the DECHEMA medal for his services to technical electrochemistry .
