Joachim Perels

Joachim Perels (born March 31, 1942 in Berlin ) is a German political scientist .

Life

Joachim Perels is the son of 1945 executed resistance fighter Friedrich Justus Perels and grandson of in Sippenhaft deceased historian Ernst Perels . He studied law, philosophy, sociology and political science in Frankfurt am Main and Tübingen and received his doctorate in 1973 from the law faculty of the University of Frankfurt . Since 1971 he has been working at the University of Hanover (at that time still Technical University), first as administrator of a scientific assistant position at the Department for Science of Politics, from 1975 as Academic Councilor, 1976 as Academic Senior Councilor. In 1978 he completed his habilitation in Political Science in Hanover and has been Professor of Political Science there (now emeritus ) since 1983 .

His areas of work are: democratic constitutional theory , rule structure of state socialism , coming to terms with the Nazi past, after-effects of the Nazi system in the Federal Republic of Germany, punishment of state crimes, political implications of theology .

Among other things, Joachim Perels is co-founder and editor of the journal Kritische Justiz , chairman of the scientific advisory board of the Fritz Bauer Institute and member of the international expert commission for the expansion of the Bergen-Belsen memorial, as well as deputy director of the Institute for Research on Federalism.

In 2012 he was awarded the Fritz Bauer Prize of the Humanist Union .
