Joachim Weickert

Joachim Weickert (born March 15, 1965 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German mathematician and professor of mathematics and computer science .

He studied at the University of Kaiserslautern from 1984 to 1991, received his diploma in technical mathematics there in 1991 and received his doctorate in 1996 with the dissertation topic "Anisotropic Diffusion in Image Processing" in the Department of Mathematics.

In 2001 he completed his habilitation in computer science at the University of Mannheim . He worked as a research assistant at the University of Kaiserslautern , as a postdoctoral fellow at the Universities of Utrecht (Netherlands) and Copenhagen (Denmark), and as a university assistant at the University of Mannheim.

Since 2001 he has been a professor of mathematics and computer science at Saarland University in Saarbrücken, where he heads the “Mathematical Image Analysis” working group. His research areas are image processing , computer vision and scientific computing .
