Joachimites are the followers of the prophecy of Joachim von Fiore († 1201), who had heralded the beginning of the "Age of Spirit " in 1260 . It was supposed to follow the age of the Father and the Son and bring the secular church back to an early Christian state. Initially, the Joachimites regarded the Staufer Emperor Friedrich II. , Later the Pope as the Antichrist . Joachimism was taken over from the harsh tendency of the Franciscans , who split off from the main tribe in 1230 in order to re-realize the original ideal of poverty and thereby came into open contradiction to the Curia . In the 13th and 14th centuries, Joachimites in Italy were persecuted by the Inquisition .
