Joaquín Araújo Ruano

Joaquín Araújo Ruano (* 1851 in Ciudad Real , † 1894 in Madrid ) was a Spanish painter, graphic artist and book illustrator.

He studied in Madrid at the High School for Painting and Sculpture (Escuela Superior de Pintura y Escultura) with Ignacio Suárez Llanos . In 1872 he traveled to Paris, where he became a student of Léon Bonnat , and then worked at the Spanish Academy in Rome (Academia de España en Roma). He became friends with Giovanni Boldini and James Whistler , worked for the English magazine The Graphic and numerous Spanish periodicals, especially the one devoted to bullfighting . Among his etchings , the series that he dedicated to Dante's Divine Comedy should be highlighted .
