Joaquín Ortega

Joaquín "Ximo" Ortega Gascón (born March 19, 1981 in Tavernes de la Valldign ) is a former Spanish road cyclist .

In 2003, Joaquín Ortega won the overall ranking of the Trofeo Diputacion de Alicante as well as one stage each at the Volta ao Portugal do Futuro and at the Semana Aragonesa. The next year he was successful at stages of the Grand Premio Vila-Real and at the Semana Aragonesa. In 2005 he won a stage in the Vuelta a Alicante and in 2006 a section of the Volta de Castello. He was also the best non-professional road race at the 2006 Spanish championship. He then became a professional in 2007 with the Professional Continental Team Fuerteventura-Canarias . In his second year there he won a stage and the team time trial at the Vuelta a Zamora and at the Vuelta a Tenerife. In 2009 he switched to the amateur team CCN-Valencia Terra i Mar, where he won the two one-day races Trofeo Corte Inglès and Festival Ciclistica Comunidad de Valencia.

In 2010 Ortega drove for the Portuguese Continental Team Barbot-Siper . That year there he won a stage in the Volta a Portugal . He was later convicted of doping with EPO and his stage win was revoked.
