Jochen Guck (* 1973 in Germany ) is a German biophysicist.

Guck studied physics at the University of Würzburg with a diploma in 1997 and received his doctorate in 2001 at the University of Texas at Austin and from 2002 was junior group leader and scientific assistant at the University of Leipzig (Institute for Soft Matter Physics). In 2007 he became a Lecturer and in 2009 Reader at Cambridge University (Cavendish Laboratory). In 2012 he received a Humboldt Professorship for cellular machines at the Biotechnological Center of the TU Dresden . Since October 2018 he has been director at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light and at the Max Planck Center for Physics and Medicine in Erlangen, where he heads a research group in the field of "Biological Optomechanics".

He investigates the mechanical and optical properties of cells and tissues with applications in medicine (diagnosis, regenerative medicine). He also developed new methods, for example in biophotonics (application of Optical Diffraction Tomography (ODT), Quantitative Phase Imaging (QPI)), where he used the distribution of the internal refractive index (RI) of the cell as a biomarker for differentiation, cancer or Infection takes advantage. He investigates the mechanics of cells with atomic force microscopy and the methods developed by him or at his laboratory, real-time deformability cytometry (RT-DC) and the optical stretcher (an optical trap in which cells are deformed without contact with light ).

He received the Young Scientist Award in Biomedical Photonics from the German Cancer Research Center Heidelberg.
