Jochen Lenz

Jochen Lenz (* 1930) is a German sports scientist and university professor .

Life

Lenz studied at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig . He was a canoe association trainer from 1955 to 1957 and from 1967 and 1968. As a trainer of the SC DHfK Leipzig he looked after athletes like Fritz Lange, Volkmar Fleischer and Jürgen Bremer. In 1966 he submitted his doctoral thesis at the German University of Physical Culture. It was entitled “Investigations into the influence of different training loads on performance in training and competition: an analysis of the training of world championship squads in canoe slalom with the help of new methods for objectifying Training and competition services ". Between 1968 and 1970 Lenz was head of the scientific center of the GDR Canoe Association. In 1976 he completed his PhD B at the DHfK (title of his paper: "Findings from the performance structure and performance reserves for canoe racing of the German Canoe Sports Association of the GDR in the 1976 Olympic year") after doing research as an employee of the university on the subject of canoe racing. In 1972 and 1976 he was awarded the National Prize for Science and Technology.

From 1976 to 1990 Lenz was professor for theory and methodology of training in water driving at DHfK, head of the science area of ​​water driving / tourism, from 1978 to 1990 he was dean of the faculty for sports methodology of the Scientific Council and between 1976 and 1986 he was also deputy chairman of the Canoe Association of GDR. Among other things, he brought out teaching material for canoeing and led collective authors who published the book “Performance Requirements in Young Talent Training” in 1993 and the book “Performance and Training Teaching Canoeing” in 1994. Lenz was co-author of the book “German University for Body Culture Leipzig 1950–1990 - Development, Function, Working Method”, to which he contributed the chapters “The work of the faculty for sports methodology” and “The science area of ​​water driving / tourism”.

At the international level, Lenz was a member of the racing committee of the International Canoe Association and took part in five Summer Olympics and more than 30 world championships.
