history

The first race took place in 1923 on a still unpaved road. In the following years until 1930 the races took place annually. Participants included Rudolf Caracciola and Hans Stuck . Rudi Klein drove the record time of 5: 35.3 minutes. Then there was a long break from events.

It wasn't until 1954 that the yoke race was revived. 30,000 spectators attended the spectacle at the time.

With further interruptions, further races took place in the 1980s and in 1989 the final event. At that time, 20,000 spectators were enthusiastic about the skills of the 270 drivers from 13 nations. The unchanged valid best time was set in 1986 by Fredy Amweg in an Automobiles Martini with 3: 08.26 minutes; this corresponds to an average of 107.45 km / h.

Since 1999 the tradition has been successfully carried out by an annual classic car event as the “Jochpass Memorial”.
