The Jodel D.9 Bébé is a sport aircraft by the French designers Édouard Joly and Jean Délémontez , which was manufactured by Avions Jodel from the late 1940s.

history

The D9 was developed from 1947 as a single-seat sport aircraft with an open cockpit. The first prototype with the registration number F-WEPF had its maiden flight in Beaune in January 1948 . Series production ran in the 1950s and 60s at both Jodel in Beaune and Wassmer in Issoire . From 1952 onwards, the machine was also copied by amateur aircraft builders in Germany, but it was not approved until 1958. A total of about 500 copies were made in amateur construction, for which a large range of prefabricated and semi-finished products was available.

In 1950 the D9 was further developed into the two-seater Jodel D11 .

construction

The D9 is a cantilever low wing aircraft made of wood with a box-shaped fuselage and rectangular wings with outer wings angled upwards by about 14 °. The single-spar wings were made in one piece. The fixed tail wheel chassis was self-supporting and had spring struts equipped with rubber elements and, in the early version, a spring spur.

The prototype was powered by a two- cylinder Poinsard boxer engine with an output of 18 kW. However, the machine could be equipped with a variety of different engines. These included B. the 35 PS (25 kW) ABC Scorpion and the 30 PS (22 kW) Minié. Motors with an output of up to 48 kW were later used.

A four-cylinder boxer engine from Volkswagen with 19 to 29 kW was used in the examples built in Germany. The version with the 26 PS (19 kW) VW engine was called the Jodel D.92.
