Joe Eldridge (musician)
Joseph "Joe" Eldridge (* 1908 in Pittsburgh , † 5. March 1952 in New York City ) was an American alto saxophonist and violinist of Swing . He was the brother of trumpeter Roy Eldridge .
At the beginning of his musician career, Joe Eldridge worked in various Territory Bands around his hometown of Pittsburgh. In 1927 he went to New York for the first time to play with Henry Saparo. In 1933 he formed the Eldridge Brothers Rhythm Team with his younger brother Roy . Shortly afterwards he became a member of McKinney's Cotton Pickers , in 1936 he played in Roy Eldridge's band in Chicago and went with him to New York from 1938 to 1940. There he worked at Zutty Singleton , again with Roy and with Hot Lips Page , and lived in Canada for a while in the late 1940s . He returned to New York shortly before his death.
