Joey Santiago (born June 11, 1965 in Manila ; full name: Joseph Alberto Santiago ) is an American musician of Filipino descent. He is the guitarist for the Pixies and The Martinis.

Life

Joey Santiago was born in Manila but moved from the Philippines to Yonkers , New York with his family when he was seven . He grew up mostly in Longmeadow , Massachusetts , where he also attended high school. At the University of Massachusetts in 1986 he met Charles Thompson, who later called himself Black Francis , and decided to start a band with him. The resulting Pixies existed until 1993 and released five albums. After the Pixies broke up, he first played lead guitar on some of Black Francis' solo albums, but in 1995 he and his wife Linda Mallari founded the band The Martinis, which released an album and an EP in 2004. In the 1990s and 2000s, Santiago worked as a composer for film and television productions. In 2004 there was a reunion of the Pixies in the old composition. The band has given many concerts since then, releasing the album Indie Cindy in 2014 and the album Head Carrier in 2016.
