features

Joger's sand rattle otter is a small sand rattle otter with a body length of about 30 cm. In terms of its scaling, it is particularly similar to the white-bellied sand rattle otter ( Echis leucogaster ). The eyes are yellowish and set relatively far forward.

The body color and the pattern are variable, the basic color ranges from brown to gray to a reddish hue. The mostly dark back has a series of light, bar-like spots on the back, bordered by dark scales. The flanks are lighter and marked by dark triangular or round spots with a light border. In the middle of the body the snake has around 27 rows of scales. The ventral side is creamy white or ivory and consists of 123 to 136 ventral scales .

distribution and habitat

The snake is so far only known from Mali , the first describer named a place near Timbuktu as Terra typica .
