Johan III van Arkel
Johan III van Arkel († 1115 / 1118 ) from the first house van Arkel was devastating the country van Arkel , of Heukelom and Polsbroek .
Johan III was born as the son of Johan II. van Arkel and Margaretha van Altena. He took part in the contingent of Count Robert II of Flanders in the First Crusade . After arriving in Jerusalem, he received by Godfrey of Bouillon the accolade . According to a legend, he had a quarrel in the Holy Land with an Italian nobleman who had the same coat of arms as that of the Arkels. After his return he married Aleid / Adelheid van Heusden (1060–1145), daughter of Jan II. Van Heusden. There were two sons from this marriage:
- Johan IV. Van Arkel , inherited the Land van Arkel
- Folpert van Arkel van der Leede , received the grandeur Ter Leede , which was spun off from the Land van Arkel, and thus founded the Van der Leede-van Arkel house
