Johan Kemper

Johan Christian Jakob Kemper (also: Moshe Ben Aharon von Krakau ; * 1670 ; † 1716 ) was a Polish Jew who converted from Judaism to Lutheran Christianity.

He was a lecturer in Hebrew at Uppsala University from 1697 to 1716 . He was probably Emanuel Swedenborg's teacher .

During his stay in Uppsala he wrote a three-volume work on the Zohar , entitled Matteh Mosche (The Staff of Moses). In it he tried to prove that the Zohar contained the Christian doctrine of the Trinity. This belief led him to a literal translation of the Gospel according to Matthew into Hebrew, with a Kabbalistic commentary.
