Johann (Beaumont)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann (French: Jean ; † 1222 ) was a count of Beaumont-sur-Oise from the House of Beaumont-sur-Oise . He was a son of Count Matthew II of Beaumont-sur-Oise , Grand Chamberlain of France , and his second wife Adelais.

After the childless death of his half-brother Matthew III. in 1208 Johann was able to take over the county of Beaumont-sur-Oise. He fought in 1214 on the right wing of the French army in the victorious battle of Bouvines .

In his first marriage Johann was married to Gertrude, a daughter of Count Raoul I von Soissons . The marriage was annulled. His second wife was Johanna, the eldest daughter of Wilhelm V von Garlande, whose inheritance he fought against his sisters-in-law and their husbands at the royal court in Compiègne in August 1217 . From both marriages Johann had no children, which was followed by a vacancy in the county of Beaumont when he died in 1222. Several of his distant relatives were now fighting over their possession. King Philip II August ended this conflict in 1223 by drawing the county into the crown domain , after he had financially compensated Thibaud d'Ully, a cousin of John, for giving up his inheritance rights.
