Johann Conrad von Wernau (* around 1533; † 1553 in Tübingen ) was a Württemberg knight and student.

Life

Johann Conrad von Wernau was a knight belonging to the von Wernau family , who were mentioned several times from the 14th century onwards because they appeared in the entourage of the Württemberg counts and dukes. In April 1552 he enrolled at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen .

Tomb

His tomb attributed to Joseph Schmid's workshop, which is still preserved in the collegiate church in Tübingen , shows the deceased in an ambiguous representation of the person standing and lying down. He stands on a lion as a symbol of strength or as an indication of eternal life, but the pillow under his head gives the impression of lying down. A battle hammer in his left hand, a dagger and a sword distinguish him as a knight. In his right hand he holds a roll of parchment with his coat of arms, under his right arm is the Bible or a scientific book, which presumably represents his scientific possession. The objects make it clear that he not only belonged to the nobility, but was an educated young man.,
